This has been a slow week for quilting here. My shoulder has been acting up and also I am waiting for the mailman every day to bring what I need to get started.
1. For the Strips That Sizzle I decided, after piecing it, that a double border would be good to show off more of that great batik. But the blue fabric from my stash turned out to be a bit stretchy in the width, probably from latex added. So here is my plan so far:
These are the widths I'm planning to use, but now I'm waiting for some Windsor blue Kona which I ordered this week. I have lots of the batik left.
2. I really did not like the first 16-inch scrappy block that I labored over so much. I have been wanting to do leaders/Enders 16-patches. So I started ripping apart the big block to reuse the blue pieces. Some of them are here. I will save the blue and whites for the future.
3. It's February, so what about the new colors? They are only colors so far. I have decided to make Twinkles after all, because I just love the ones I've seen from so many of you. My tri-recs have not yet arrived, so that is on hold for now.
This pile of batiks should be good for the Twinkles I plan to do and for the next two Modern HST Sampler blocks. At least I did not wait until summer to change direction!
I link up with RSC16 at soscrappy and Monday Making at Love, Laugh, Quilt. Do check out what the talented folks are doing.
the borders are going to work so well for the Strips that Sizzle. It will be interesting to see how you go on with the tri rec I do have it but not used it, must have a go. I envy you all those batiks it is my plan to build up a stash but they do not sell them here in Leeds,
ReplyDeleteYour strips that sizzle does just that! Stunning!
ReplyDeleteBlue is the perfect choice for a border for the strips quilt. It already looks terrific. I liked the 16-patch, but sometimes we have to rip up the ones we don't like just to feel better. Hope it works out!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love your sizzlin' quilt! The borders are definitely worth waiting for - the perfect touch!
ReplyDeleteI love my tri-recs rulers. Having made hundreds of those triangle-in-a-square blocks without them (i.e. the hard way...), I HIGHLY recommend them!
I know how you feel about making a few blocks ewrly on that you just didn't like. I also ripped out a few nad turned th m into four patch blocks. I'm not sure exactly what I will do with them, but I think the four patches have lots of options. Hope your shoulder is feeling better.
ReplyDeleteLOVE what you've planned for the STS Quilt AND the fabrics that you have pulled for February. Here's hoping for a more productive week next week!
ReplyDeleteYou are making great progress on so many fronts. I'm sure those extra blocks will find a home somewhere. Beautiful brown fabrics. Looking forward to watching them come together.
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard waiting for the mailman. Glad to see you've made plans during the waiting time.
ReplyDeleteThe border plan for Sizzles looks great. Hopefully the post man will be there soon so you can get that one finished.
ReplyDeleteThe fabrics you've gathered for the Twinkles are such lovely shades.
ReplyDeletetwinkles are on my list to make too.
